How much does academic editing cost?
At Prose Consulting our pricing structure is in line with IPEd’s Indicative costs of academic editing.
Each project is quoted on an individual basis with considerations to word count, turnaround times and structure. We work with you to meet your requirements and make sure you have plenty of time to review the work prior to submission.
Securing a booking as early as possible will guarantee your spot in our calendar when you need it. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way and you need last-minute assistance. In any case, we’re here to help!
How long will you have my manuscript for?
The turnaround time for editing your specific project will depend largely on word count and complexity. We will endeavour to work with you depending on your individual requirements to fit in with our available bookings wherever possible.
As a broad estimate, shorter papers (20,000 words or less) can usually be returned in under a week. Manuscripts up to 60,000 words will be approximately two weeks and 80–100,000 words are generally 3–4 weeks.
Urgent submissions will always be considered, so please reach out regardless of your deadline.
Thesis chapter editing
When booking your thesis edit, we ask that the full draft including all chapters, abstract, appendices and references be provided at once. Editing one chapter at a time can cause a multitude of inconsistencies, and often issues are picked up in later chapters that then need to be replicated on earlier ones. This not only causes more rework, but is an inefficient use of your own time and budget.
However, if you are in the early (or messy-middle) stages of your research, or perhaps your timeline and budget constraints mean you cannot include a full thesis edit, our Thesis Chapter Edit option helps you bridge the gap between hoping for the best, and being confident of a high-end manuscript.
For a fixed fee of $750* we can edit 1–2 chapters of your thesis (to a maximum of 12,000 words +/- 10%) providing a solid foundation for you to build the rest of your submission upon. We will create and format the template as required by your institution with all the inclusions of a normal copyedit (as per the section What do academic editing services include?—except for the reference list) all within 3 business days.
This way, you get to see the common issues that pop up, and correct or avoid them in subsequent chapters. The formatting (one of the most frustrating issues for authors) is taken care of for you, with strict adherence to the required guide—including the creation of heading, paragraph and text styles—giving you a smoother ride to the finish line.
You choose which chapter/s to provide to us, and if you decide to come back to us for a full thesis edit down the track we will deduct the price you have already paid from the final quote.
