When working with a manuscript for a length of time, all authors develop error blindness along the writing journey. This is where your brain switches from reading what is on the page to what is expected to be on the page. A fresh set of eyes using our editing service ensures a meticulous edit—where your message shines—and distractions from formatting, grammar or punctuation issues are eliminated.
An editor does more than wield their (figurative) red pen looking for typos. We provide guidance, suggestions and feedback to authors as professionals working directly within the publishing industry to help your writing achieve the greatest success it can.
We work to ensure your unique voice as the author and objective of the book is not lost through the editing stage, which is why this process is part detailed knowledge and part artistic licence.
Depending on which stage your draft is at, we can provide a big-picture structural edit through our Manuscript Assessment service and Copyediting (also known as line editing) through the latter stages of your draft.
Our copyediting service includes as a minimum:
- Grammar, spelling and punctuation checks
- Sentence structure scrutiny: active versus passive voice
- Consistency of terms, acronyms and abbreviations
- Narrative flow and transitions
- Correcting subject/verb agreement and avoiding repetition
- Formatting including contents, headings, tables, figures, appendices and references
- Cross-checking in-text citations against the reference list and vice versa

This starts from our first chat and doesn’t end when we send the edited document back to you. You will receive updates throughout the editing process, and we will request any clarifications needed along the way so there are no surprises. Once edited, we will provide a breakdown and summary of the work completed, the major items addressed and any other feedback or suggestions not already included within the comments and tracked changes.

Each project is quoted on an individual basis with considerations to word count, turnaround times and structure. We work with you to meet your requirements and make sure you have plenty of time to review the work prior to submission or publication.
Securing a booking as early as possible will guarantee your spot in our calendar when you need it. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way and you need last-minute assistance. In any case, we’re here to help!
A note on academic editing: When booking your thesis edit, we ask that the full draft including all chapters, abstract, appendices and references be provided at once. Editing one chapter at a time can cause a multitude of inconsistencies, and often issues are picked up in later chapters that then need to be replicated on earlier ones. This not only causes more rework, but is an inefficient use of your own time and budget.
Alternatively, if you are in the early (or messy-middle) stages of your research, or perhaps your timeline and budget constraints mean you cannot include a full thesis edit, our Thesis Chapter Edit option helps you bridge the gap between hoping for the best, and being confident of a high-end manuscript.

The turnaround time for editing your specific project will depend largely on word count and complexity. We will endeavour to work with you depending on your individual requirements to fit in with our available bookings wherever possible.
As a broad estimate, shorter papers (20,000 words or less) can usually be returned in under a week. Manuscripts up to 60,000 words will be approximately two weeks and 80–100,000 words are generally 3–4 weeks.
Urgent submissions will always be considered, so please reach out regardless of your deadline.
